How to hide your phone number on Telegram so strangers can’t see it?

To hide your phone number on Telegram, you must adjust your privacy settings to “Nobody.” By default, your number is visible to people in your contact list.

Steps to Hide Your Number

1. Open Settings:

   * Android: Tap the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the top-left and select Settings.

   * iOS: Tap the Settings gear icon in the bottom-right corner.

   * Desktop: Click the three horizontal lines in the top-left and select Settings.

2. Navigate to Privacy: Tap on Privacy and Security.

3. Select Phone Number: Under the “Privacy” section, tap on Phone Number.

4. Set Visibility to “Nobody”: Under the “Who can see my phone number” section, select Nobody.

5. Restrict Discovery (Crucial): Once set to “Nobody,” a new section appears: “Who can find me by my number.” Change this to My Contacts to prevent strangers who have your number from finding your account. 

 

Privacy Considerations

* Exceptions: You can use the “Always Share With” or “Never Share With” options to allow specific users or groups to see your number despite your general settings.

* Usernames: To let people message you without knowing your number, create a Username in your profile settings. People can then find you via search or a t.me/username link.

* Existing Contacts: If someone already has your number saved in their phone’s contact list and synced with Telegram, they will still see that you are on the platform.
